Frequently Asked Questions

we are asked.

questions that may not
be answered here.
Question: Why should I backup my data?
Answer: There are many reasons to back up your computer
data. The most
important of which is that computer failures do occur,
and a
business without backup may not be able to recover from a theft,
hard
drive failure, an angry employee, computer
virus, spyware,
or other data loss. Natural disasters such as fire, flood, tornado,
hurricane and earthquakes are more reasons to
have good backups.
Question: Why store data backups in an off-site location?
Answer: Having the backup information in the same location or
area as the
equipment does not adequately protect your data. In the
case of
natural disasters, the backup media is usually destroyed by the same
cause as the data. This is especially true in
the case of a fire,
tornado, hurricane or theft.
Question: Why is important to have my data on two
systems?
Answer: By using a Mirrored Data Server you receive an added insurance that
your data will be
protected and available when you need it most.
SDS strives to provide
the best possible means to store and protect
your data, but any computer system
hardware is capable of failure
regardless of its quality or configuration. Having your data mirrored
on a second
server creates increased security and reliability.
Best of all, the mirroring of your data is automatic and included in
the price.
There are no additional options to ask for and
no
additional fees to worry about!
Question: How is my data transferred to your site?
Answer: SDS utilizes all types of Internet connections to transfer
your data to
and from your location. This can be in the form of a dial-up modem
or a broadband connection. Many businesses currently have
high-speed
Internet access in the form of DSL, High-Speed Cable, T1 Lines,
High-Speed Wireless and others.
Questions: Can I use a dial-up modem to backup my data?
Answer: YES. Any Internet connection is
supported. Transfer of data over a
modem is slower, but it does work and
it is supported. The initial
backup takes the longest. After that, only data that has
changed is
transmitted, thus shortening the time needed
to send the data over
the modem.
Question: How do I know what was backed up and if the backup ran
successfully?
Answer: Each backup/restore event creates a detailed
log of what was backed
up, when and where to. You can simply review the backup logs
the next morning to check which files were backed up and that the
backup was successful.
Question: Do I have to change out tapes, disks, drives or other
media types?
Answer: NO, absolutely not! The backup software is
completely automated
and only requires an Internet connection. Your
backups run unattended
at any time and frequency of your choosing. Most businesses
run there
backups at the end of the business
day or at night when Internet traffic
is at its lowest.
Question: Is my data secure?
Answer: ABSOLUTELY! There are 3 different levels of data
encryption to choose
from. The default encryption is Blowfish. The
Blowfish encryption
process is 468-bits long and to date has NEVER been broken
by anyone,
including computer hackers. In comparison, the encryption used by the
banking and financial industries for Internet transactions is 128-bits long.
The data is encrypted before it leaves your computer and stays secure
until it is restored back to your computer system. At no time is it
useable or readable outside of your computer.
